The Mental Health Program at the School of Medicine was started in 1980 and offers medical students and graduate students (SOM only) evaluation, treatment and referral for a wide range of psychological needs.  The program is dedicated to maintaining healthy and confident students and is both free of charge and highly confidential.  No insurance is billed for services.  Students can see providers for individual psychotherapy, medication management, or both. Please note: you do not need to see a therapy provider prior to seeing a psychiatrist or starting medications in this program.

A student using the program can be assured that no information shared in treatment is ever available to others without expressed permission from the student.  Medical training and graduate school is an exciting yet sometimes stressful process.  Students may experience depression, anxiety, loss of confidence, sleep difficulties, relationship problems, eating problems, substance abuse, etc.  These difficulties can interfere with academic performance, and this often increases distress.  It is hoped that if any such problems arise, students will contact the UPSOM Mental Health Team as soon as possible to avoid more serious problems from developing.

All of our providers have the ability to meet virtually; most also have offices close to the school if a student prefers in-person appointments. Meetings are by appointment only.

To schedule with a provider, please reach out to the provider directly via E-mail.

Additional Resources

Students can also seek care through The University Counseling Center, which offers walk-in appointments, self-help, and group resources as well as individualized counseling and medication management.

**Undergraduate students and graduate students in other schools should seek care through the University Counseling Center for counseling services and/or Student Health Services for psychiatric care.
