Brighid O'Donnell, MD
- Assistant Dean for Student Affairs
- Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Newborn Medicine
- Associate Director of NICU, UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh
- Director of Medical Affairs, The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh
Dr. O'Donnell graduated from Temple University School of Medicine in 2009, completed her pediatric residency at Jefferson Medical College/A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children in 2012, and subsequently served as Chief Resident. She joined the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine 12 years ago as a Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine fellow. She bridged her fellowship and early faculty years working in the laboratory of Dr. Jeff Brodsky in the Department of Biological Sciences. In 2017, she transitioned from her work as a physician-scientist to that of a clinician-educator, focusing on both medical education and clinical research. She received her Certificate of Medical Education from the University of Pittsburgh in 2022.
Dr. O'Donnell has served as a member of the UPSOM Curriculum and Admissions Committees. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she responded to rising levels of anxiety and depression among medical students with the development of a UPSOM Professional Enrichment Course, Wellness and Resilience for Medical School and Beyond. For the last five years, she has served as the co-director of the pediatric track of the UPSOM Bootcamp Course, preparing MS4 students for residency training in pediatrics. Brighid’s greatest source of career fulfillment is in mentoring medical students, first as a Faculty & Students Together (FAST) advisor for incoming students, then transitioning to her current role as an Advisory Dean.
